Cared For.
Carlos packed me lunch today which was a very nice surprise. The individually-wrapped pickle is my favorite part, it was wrapped and packed with such care!

Ram On.
A little wanky, a little croony, totally and completely perfect for today. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, I love Paul’s post-Beatles music SO MUCH.
(Plus, this weirdly edited home video is so British and features a baby and a dog and horseback riding and sheep, and I can’t even handle the loveydoveyness of it all.)

At Ease.
This is the wall behind my desk at work. My office was built in 1892, and I really love that this wall hasn’t been touched. You can see the wood that was used to help keep things level. Parts of the bricks are broken. I like that the bricks are a little uneven and not quite perfect. There’s something about it that seems easy and organized, but not too structured and perfected.
I’m feeling pretty easy-breezy and organized today. The weather sucks, but you know what? It’s helping me water my plants. We just had to pay for repairs on our car, but guess what? We have a great lil car that works and will bring our baby home from the hospital in a few weeks. Most mornings, I wish I could stay in bed for an hour or two more, but hey, I get to walk a cute and cheerful little pup around a charming Seattle neighborhood before breakfast, so it could be worse, right? All in all, things are pretty at ease with this Lopez.

Woad.
A few weeks ago, we stumbled upon a pretty amazing event. A large group of ladies were dying clothes in Magnusson Park and filling up this beautiful amphitheater with their wares.
They were using woad, which is a kind of plant that naturally dyes fabric. We watched them for a while and admired their scarves and blouses and linens.
(Note: I haven’t edited these iPhone pictures at all, the woad is THAT strong!)

Weekends.
I have so many great photos from last weekend’s visit with Carissa, but I just haven’t found the time to dump ‘em off the camera. While I get my act together, here’s a sweet little video of how we spent our relaxing Saturday afternoon:
Bare feet, perfect sunshine-shade-breeze combo, guitar, ukulele, hammock, sleepy puppy, Bob Dylan (a faster, peppier version of “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere”).
I’m so happy it’s Friday, I’m ready for another weekend filled with lazy moments like this!

43 Days.
In about 43 days there will be lots of changes in this room.
Remy will have a little charge to protect.
Carlos will be a really, really good papa.
I will be completely and head over heels in love with a new little person.
Our house will not be sleepy and quiet at 3am.
“Must See TV” may have to wait a few nights.
The dishes may pile up, weeds will grow, and I won’t really notice.
The camera will snap 500 times a day, and none of the pictures will be of me or Carlos or Remy.
Our family will have a newly minted “Nan,” “Grandad,” “Grandma,” and “Grandpa,” and a team of helpful “Aunties” and “Uncles.” Lucky baby will even have a few “Greatmas” and “Greatpas.”
BBQs in the backyard at dusk will be our “date nights,” and we’ll have a pretty special third wheel along for each one.

Congratulations, Amy and Chris!
My dear friend Amy is tying the knot today to her love Chris. And to make it even more romantic, they’re in Hawaii, celebrating their beachy ceremony with a small group of closest friends and family. If our little baby had come a few months earlier or later, we would have been there celebrating with them, but instead, we’ll raise a toast of (non-alcoholic) champagne from afar!
Sending warm wishes and big hugs to the newlyweds - congratulations!
(Pictures stolen from Amy’s Facebook - the first is their marriage license that was “obtained in a jungle” and the second is from their beautiful rehearsal dinner. Aw.)

The Crumpet Shop.
Oh my goodness, I love The Crumpet Shop. It’s a good thing that I don’t still work right around the corner from this sweet little shop, I would have eaten there every day for the last 8 months!
This morning, I did a little routine that I have grown quite fond of. I visit my dentist in Belltown every 6 months for a regular cleaning (this is the part I’m NOT so fond of). I always make an early morning appointment, which feels brutal, but then! I stroll down to Pike Place, pop in to The Crumpet Shop, and order a latte (decaf) and a big bowl of groats.
Groats are kind of like oatmeal, but more substantial and, well, chunky. I always order all the fixins: currants, brown sugar, and milk. Oh my, I should have ordered 2 bowls today, they still sound so good! Maybe I’ll head back up there for lunch today, I’m sure I could enjoy a crumpet with egg, pesto, and a tomato…

Baby Shower.
I’m a week late! Blame it on the baby brain. Here are some photos of the beautiful shower that Katie hosted for me on Cinco de Mayo. I was touched by how thoughtful all of the details were: specialty foods, fancy non-alcoholic bevvies, and beautiful decorations and gifts. I’m still in awe of what an elegant and stylish party my friends and family can throw! Baby Lopez sure is lucky to be coming into such a great group of beautiful ladies!
